Giulia Pellegrini has joined Allianz Global Investors as a Senior Portfolio Manager in the Emerging Market Debt team. Giulia, who joins AllianzGI from BlackRock, will be responsible for enhancing AllianzGI’s existing ESG/SRI EMD capabilities, overseeing country specific research and helping to manage a number of EMD funds.
Prior to joining AllianzGI, Giulia worked at BlackRock as Head of EMD Sustainable Investing where she played a key role in shaping their EMD offering, including the launch of 4 Sustainable EMD Funds. She has also held positions at the World Bank and J.P Morgan.
Giulia will report to Richard House, CIO EMD, and will be based in London. Commenting, Richard said
“Last year was marked by a large disparity in asset price performance across EM. A handful of countries witnessed social unrest that can be traced back to underlying Social and/or Governance factors. Environmental issues have rightly become a significant consideration for both asset owners and investors. We believe integrating ESG factors into an active EMD investment process is not only key in helping to generate alpha but also in ultimately having an impact in forcing positive change”
“I’ve spent the last 21 years investing in the US Micro Cap space. The asset class has delivered compelling returns because Wall Street is preoccupied with name brand large cap stocks. This lack of focus on micro caps creates significant opportunities in active management, allowing us to capture early-stage/underappreciated investment ideas on behalf of our clients.”
