Allianz UK Listed Equity Income Fund

Fund overview

The Allianz UK Listed Equity Income Fund has practised a consistent value-driven approach for many years and benefits from a team with decades of investment experience through multiple market cycles.

The Fund aims to generate a total return greater than the FTSE All-Share Index over a rolling five-year period, whilst delivering an annual income yield greater than the index1. The primary driver of performance and yield is the active, contrarian, value-driven stock-picking approach to identify companies that we believe are mispriced where, through fundamental analysis, we can identify a gap between market price and intrinsic value to create a concentrated portfolio of high-conviction investments.

The Fund uses an integrated environmental, social and governance (ESG) approach that emphasises identifying, monitoring and interpreting ESG-related risks in our underlying holdings. The managers work closely with an extensive internal team whose work on environmental, social, and governance issues is woven throughout the fundamental investment process.

This fund uses the specified benchmark as a target. This means that the index shown is part of a target set for the fund’s performance to match or exceed.

Experienced portfolio management team

The Fund is co-managed by Simon Gergel and Richard Knight, who are principally responsible for managing UK equities, supported by Andrew Koch as deputy portfolio manager. This core of UK specialists has more than 50 years of combined investment experience and sits within the broader European Value and Income team. This broader team has a wide range of expertise across many sectors and market capitalisations, which makes for a healthy environment of investment debate and challenge within the common investment themes of income and value investing.

Simon Gergel and Richard Knight discuss why the UK’s highly discounted market today offers fantastic opportunities for stock pickers, and why their rigorous, value-driven all-cap approach has delivered strong outperformance across market environments.

Outlook & commentary

It’s been a long time since the UK experienced a “normal” year. Britain’s decision to leave the European Union in 2016 has been variously followed by the prospect of a hard left-wing government, a global pandemic, a European land war and inflation’s vengeful return. Last year alone gave us three Prime Ministers and four Chancellors of the Exchequer. According to the International Monetary Fund, recession will compound these woes further in 2023, with a 0.6% hit to gross domestic product (GDP) meaning even Russia’s economy will outpace that of the UK.
